I think american kestrel tail feathers fit him perfectly!! Color wise, at least They'd be a nice complement/an accent to his reddish fur!
 

personally I think red tailed hawk and golden eagle are overused (they're gorgeous, but just seen too much). I use them all the time in my own designs (hence maybe why i think they're overused haha!) but they're also easily recognizable. Kestrel is a bit more interesting! It seems less generic
